deference

while i defer to your greater wisdom
(and yes i really mean that)
i trust that you'll honor the path
that honors it all
and choose to see it through
no matter how much it means to you
to stay safe and well-protected

we used to joke about the way
that people would stay, stuck and suspended
see what there is to do
but undistinguished,
liking it, fun, would end it
the taking of said clear path

i'm noticing the care with which
i'm choosing words
trying not to belabor or bore
yet subtly plead my case
to beat the race, of feeling like our time is running
out this door i see and know i need
to step through, rather with you
but will do no matter
for what's next
